Yesterday was one of those days that made me smile seeing my two oldest boys playing together nicely 90% of the time. There’s something in their peacefulness to each other (in those moments) that warms my heart. Part of it is my hope that they will have each other as close companions and friends for a long, long time.

We capped off the afternoon by the three of us going to the park. They rode their bikes next to me while I jogged along the trail. It was a special time together that made all three of us realize how big they’ve become. As the sunlight faded and the air grew cold at the end of the day, we chased each other around the empty playground with pretend lightsabers and soaked in our time together.

As we head towards Thanksgiving this week, my mind goes towards all that I’ve been blessed with, and I thought of a great song that speaks of someone else that has promised to be always by our side throughout the good and the bad, all along the journey.

Why are you striving these days
Why are you trying to earn grace
Why are you crying
Let me lift up your face
Just don’t turn away

Why are you looking for love
Why are you still searching as if I’m not enough
To where will you go child
Tell me where will you run
To where will you run

And I’ll be by your side
Wherever you fall
In the dead of night
Whenever you call
And please don’t fight
These hands that are holding you
My hands are holding you

Look at these hands and my side
They swallowed the grave on that night
When I drank the world’s sin
So I could carry you in
And give you life
I want to give you life

Cause I, I love you
I want you to know
That I, I love you
I’ll never let you go
