The story

Inside Brother Wars.

Ten-year-old Harry has a great life, except for one big problem — his older brother. Randy seems to delight in making Harry’s life difficult. Sometimes it feels like he’s in a war at his own house.

When Randy locks him and his art project in the pitch-black dark basement with the fire-breathing furnace, Harry vows to get even. But revenge may not be as sweet as he hoped when Randy blackmails him into a perilous canoe ride down the river. Has Harry followed his brother one step too far?

Brother Wars is the book that started the comedy series — the misadventures of two brothers who battle to exist under the same roof. Perfect for fans of Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Big Nate, or anyone who’s ever lived through a sibling cold war.

Behind the book

Inspired by the kid lives I know best.

Harry and Randy aren’t based on my own three sons. Not directly, anyway. But every kid with a sibling knows what living together actually looks like — the schemes, the deals, the moments of unexpected loyalty. That’s the world Brother Wars lives in.

The canoe trip in Book One is loosely inspired by a real river trip I took as a kid. The basement, the art project, the bargain — that’s all invention. The feeling? Anybody who has a brother already knows it.
